The Challenge

When the University of Kansas welcomed Head Football Coach Lance Leipold, it became clear that the Anderson Family Football Complex needed to evolve to fully reflect his vision for the program’s future. The existing facility, marked by inconsistent design elements, fell short of expressing the values of consistency and excellence central to his approach. The challenge was to reimagine the complex as a unified, cohesive environment—one that not only embodies the program’s identity but also delivers distinct spaces tailored to players, staff and attracting future recruits.

The Strategy

Jack Porter partnered with HNTB and Multistudio to develop a comprehensive renovation strategy that would transform the complex into a powerful tool for program development and recruitment. The design balances player-focused training areas with efficient staff workspaces, celebrating both current program achievements and historical legacy.

The player’s spaces anchor the strength and energy of the program, while upstairs areas transition to day-to-day operations with renovated meeting rooms, coaching suites, and corridors. The final phase introduced dynamic elements that amplify game-day energy and showcase program pride. Every detail, from material selection to graphic style, reinforces Coach Leipold’s vision of building a consistent, competitive program.
