The Challenge
Baylor University set out to create a world-class basketball facility that would honor two championship programs while unifying their distinct identities. The space, housed within the Foster Pavilion, needed to reflect the elite status of both teams while accommodating their unique cultures, aesthetics, and values within a shared environment.
The Strategy
Jack Porter developed a design strategy that celebrated each program’s individual character while creating a harmonious shared environment. For the women’s areas, the team created an upscale, sophisticated atmosphere using whites and marble finishes, carefully balancing luxury with warmth to foster team camaraderie. The men’s spaces integrated core program values through strategic environmental graphics that created powerful, resonant moments throughout the space.
The design team established a cohesive green and gold color palette while thoughtfully incorporating legacy elements through lighting and graphic accents. Championship court pieces were strategically integrated into practice facilities, weaving victory stories into the architectural experience.
Men's Basketball
Bold dimensional BU letters set a powerful tone at the entrance. Championship celebrations and program values come alive through environmental graphics and strategic messaging. A clean, professional atmosphere carries through support spaces.
Shared Spaces
Dramatic lighting and environmental graphics unite the player entrance experience. A high-performance training environment and illuminated Baylor signage create memorable moments that serve both programs.
The Impact
The transformed facility stands as a testament to Baylor Basketball’s championship culture, where every detail reinforces program values and aspirations. Beyond serving as a powerful recruitment tool, the space has redefined how two elite programs can maintain their unique identities while sharing a unified home that honors their past and inspires their future.
