The Challenge
When the University of Kansas hired Head Football Coach Lance Leipold, the Anderson Family Football Complex needed a complete transformation to align with the program’s new vision. The existing facility suffered from inconsistent design elements, creating a disconnect between the space and the program’s values of consistency and excellence. The challenge was to unify the entire complex with a cohesive design language while creating distinct environments that would serve different purposes for players, recruits, and staff.
The Strategy
Jack Porter partnered with HNTB and Multistudio to develop a comprehensive renovation strategy that would transform the complex into a powerful tool for program development and recruitment. The approach centered on creating distinct environments that serve specific purposes while maintaining design consistency throughout the facility. The design balances player-focused training areas with efficient staff workspaces. The weight room and recovery spaces anchor the strength and conditioning program, while upstairs areas transition to a day-to-day operations space with renovated meeting rooms, coaching suites, and corridors. Every detail, from material selection to graphic style, reinforces Coach Leipold’s vision of building a consistent, competitive program.
Power Meets Purpose
The player-centric spaces combine modern design with practical function to create environments that motivate and engage daily. The adaptable lighting systems and integrated Jayhawk branding allow these spaces to transition smoothly from team operations to recruiting events.

The facility's corridors flow naturally from team-focused spaces to staff areas, creating a clear sense of purpose and progression. Each hallway shares part of the Kansas Football story while maintaining a consistent design that reflects the program's emphasis on unity and growth.
